Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore might have lost to Steve Smith’s Rising Pune Supergiant by 27 runs in Bangalore but he perhaps has managed to pull off the catch of the tournament already.
Kohli held onto a blinder to get rid of Rahul Tripathi of Pawan Negi’s bowling in the ninth over during Pune’s innings. (SCORECARD)
Tripathi and Ajinkya Rahane put on a brilliant partnership for Pune to begin the innings but the latter fell in the eighth over. It was then left to Tripathi to carry on the momentum of the good start. As Negi was introduced, Tripathi, who was batting on 31 off 22 balls, drove fiercely through covers only to get the be shock of his life a few seconds later. (RCB vs RPS highlights)
The RCB captain flew to his left and caught the ball with his left hand and threw it in the air to leave the batsman completely bewildered.
Talking about the screamer in the post-match interview, Kohli said that it is one of the best catches he has ever taken.
“One of the best catches that I have taken ever. Just reflexes. All the training drills go into that,” said the 28-year-old.
However, it couldn’t prevent RCB from losing their third match in a row. They have just one win out of four matches in this year’s Indian Premier League and are on the bottom of the table.
Bangalore will next play the second last team — Gujarat Lions on April 18 in Rajkot.
